AmeriCorps Northwest Service Academy, Trout Lake, WA

Individual Placement member/leader for full-time volunteer
program based in the Columbia Gorge region. Supervised six Individual Placement
(IP) members; liaison between Trout Lake and service sites. Provided support,
resource and advocacy for members. Planned monthly IP meetings, performed
regular site visits and compiled monthly paperwork.
Developed day-long educational programs and service events for all Mt
Adams Center members and/or the surrounding communities; coordinated field
team projects and conducted research for a personal service site with World
Steward, a local non-profit organization; and provided print media service,
including member portraits in the Mt Adams Center office, a weekly email
newsletter, the eight-page annual newsletter, and assorted event flyers.
Headed a committee to improve the centers resource use and ecological
impact.

SE Asia Earthquake Victims Benefit, Portland,
OR
October 27, 02001
Spent the day helping to cook Indian food feeding a 400-plate
benefit for earthquake victims in India. Washed a lot of pots and pans
and stirred big kettles of navratan korma.

Lower Columbia River Estuary Partnership, Portland, OR
September 28, 02001
Did water quality samples for river advocacy association
at various places in the Columbia River near its conjunction with the Willamette.
Measured pH, temperature, dissolved oxygen and turbidity, in addition to
describing the conditions of the surrounding landscape. Was part of the
only team to collect its samples from a boat on the river instead of from
the shore.

Columbia Gorge Discovery Center, The Dalles, OR
Fall 02000 – Spring 02001
Worked onsite as volunteer internship for bachelor’s degree. Tasks
included: administering grant to begin a photographic library, consulting
on web content and design, editing manuscripts for publication, and reworking
media kits for the public relations office.
Also worked on the habitat restoration program, seeding and weeding,
doing native plant research and documenting photographically the program’s
progress. Produced a half-hour slide presentation for class on the museum,
which they discussed adapting into educational and community outreach programs
for the general public.

Established a Las Vegas chapter of national voter awareness
organization. Recruited volunteers, set up voter registration booths, planned
special events, and conducted voter registration in four states. Networked
with community groups to ensure an appropriate presence at numerous events.
